How to Take a Breath

Posted by Tisha Peterson on

Hi, this is Tisha from Enchanted 3 Boutique. I have really been struggling what to write about this week. As I stared at the computer screen, I had an audio book playing for background noise and it hit me. When was the last time I actually sat down and took an hour to myself where I opened an actual book or enjoyed a glass of wine? I often find myself multi-tasking trying to get everything done, because there is just not enough hours in the day. Am I alone? I imagine there are many resounding no's being herald in the distance. But what do we do about it?

For Valentine's Day my husband got me a new book from my favorite author. I haven't even bent the spine back. Three years ago, I would have devoured that book already, but life gets in the way, right? So how do we take a minute to ourselves when we have work, kids, laundry, and dishes to deal with? How do you check out for a bit and not feel guilty? I am not going to pretend to have all of the answers. Or tell you that its easy, to just shut yourself in a room and lock everyone and everything out. Let's be honest, that sanctuary doesn't exist for most of us. I know my three year old son, has become a genius locksmith when I just want to go to the bathroom by myself!

What I will tell you is, it is important for your health and sanity to just take a second, a minute, an hour to just take a breath. I know, I make it sound so easy, and it isn't. But what can we do to make time for that breath? Start small. Hit the snooze button for an extra five minutes in bed and snuggle in. Take an extra five minutes in the shower just to let the spray rain down on you. Put the kids to bed, and stay up an extra half hour to start that book or drink that glass of wine. Or just barricade the door closed when you need to use the rest room.

Whether you can carve our 5 minutes or 5 hours, do it. Shut down, forget about the pile of paper you have sitting on your desk at work or the dishes in the sink during that time. Put down your phone and just relax and breath. I want to issue all of you a challenge. I'll take part too. I want you all to take 30 mins for yourself. Do whatever you want, as long as its relaxing and is for you, not for anyone else. Then I want you to come back here and tell me about it. What did you do? how did it feel? I am going to get up early on Sunday, since that is the day my family usually sleeps in, and instead of starting laundry, I am going to open that new book and start reading until someone wakes up.

To help you out, with relaxing, check out our lavender lemonade martini body butter. Take a few minutes and smooth it all over your body and then bask in the relaxing scent of lavender and lemongrass while opening your own book or enjoying that first cup of morning coffee or a glass of wine before bed.

I accepted the challenge Will you?
